I put out a GIMP plugin that automates creating your cards a couple of weeks ago and have updated it with more functionality and bundled it with a second plugin that makes a PNP PDF directly from the images the first plugin makes. You can usually just download a template from whatever site you are using to print your cards. Set that as you top layer with something like 10% opacity so you can turn it on to easily see how everything lines up. Starting with the template assures you of the correct pixel count for printing. I have been using GIMP to make all my cards. Since I make mostly print and play games, I have a single template I use with OpenOffice draw to allow the printing of 8 cards per page. After I have designed the card with GIMP, I save it as a JPEG, open the template in Draw, drag each JPEG file to it's place on the template, then save as a PDF.
